Most people only know about astrology from the horoscope columns they read in newspapers and magazines. But those forecasts are for entertainment purposes only and should never be taken seriously. However, we all need to start somewhere, and if that is reading your horoscope in a magazine, then this is fine too.
If they seem even remotely accurate, rest assured it is only by coincidence because those columns have almost no bearing on the legitimate practice of astrology. Because they don’t consider individual birthdates, times, locations, and more a general energetic weather forecast that may or may not be true.

1. Myth: Astrology is not a religion, nor is it affiliated or associated with any religion or with any specific belief system.
Answer: You can believe in and participate in any religion you choose and still read, learn and practice astrology.
2. Myth: Astrology is about symbolism and has nothing to do with any purported physical energy emanating from a planet, moon, or star.
Answer: I understand astrology more as a science in its own right. Especially shamanic astrology, where we understand that the sun and the moon are the most influential forces impacting life here on earth.
Ancient astrology was based on the Moon calendar; people used this calendar to predict the weather and suitable days for planting, sowing, and harvesting. Back then, people were much more connected to the earth and the land. They did depend on their understanding of nature and its changes otherwise, they would not have survived. For thousands of years, this was very important to guarantee that people would live in harmony with nature. Later on, Astrology became more and more complex, and people started interpreting and observing specific energetic patterns to do with the planets and the psyche of humans. The western astrology we know today is not that old.

3. Myth: Astrology cannot be used to predict an event, only the possibility of an event occurring or a good time for a particular type of event.
Answer: Yes and no; it is not about predicting the future but becoming aware of its potential. I like to quote Judy Hall, who is a very famous and well-known astrologer, from her book The Astrology bible where she describes predictive astrology as follows:
“Astrology has been used for millennia to predict the future. Whilst the planets do not actually make things happen, astrologers have long observed earthbound events taking place at that moment. Accidents are more likely to happen, for example, when the explosive planet Uranus crosses paths with the fiery, headstrong Mars. By observing the day-to-day movement of the planets and calculating how that movement will affect your sun sign or natal chart, a predictive astrologer can foresee events, recognize their possibility of change, and identify opportunities or blockages in your path. Nothing is static: by understanding the progression of the planets, you can learn how to harness changes in your favour.”
4. Astrology is only a guide, a map of the potential in your life. However, no two people born at the same time and place will have the same life.
Yes, many other factors, such as a person’s upbringing, education, the society they were born in, and each individual’s free will, play a significant role in someone’s life.
